CH101: For science concentrators who require a
two semester general chemistry course.
Lectures are one and one half hours long twice a week; discussions are
one hour long once per week. Labs are three hours, once per week.
Stoichiometry, gases, solutions, equilibrium,
acid-base reactions, thermodynamics.
Prerequisite: two years of high school algebra

(Please be aware that safety
goggles are mandatory in the laboratory. It is a state law in

Final
Exam 20%
Late homework
will receive zero grade but must be done. Failure of doing any webassign homework
will result in a grade of Incomplete. If you have a legitimate reason for doing
your homework late (severe illness, family crisis, etc.) you must be prepared
to present appropriate evidence. If it is acceptable then the rest of your
grades will be adjusted to take into account the missing grade. If the final
exam is missed, you will be given a grade based on a zero for the exam. The
exam can then be made up at the end of the Fall semester when the exam will be
given again. A new grade will be calculated and a grade change form will be
made out.

Examination Dates: Three exams
will be given in this course. They will occur on Tue., Feb. 27th
(Exam 1), Tue. Apr. 3rd (Exam 2), and Tue. May 1sr (Exam
3). The final exam is Tuesday, May 8th,
2007, 6:00pm to 8:00pm, KCB 101. All exams will be given in the lecture room
during the scheduled lecture period.
CH 101/105, SPRING SEMESTER, 2007: LABORATORY SCHEDULE
There is one three-hour laboratory each week.
Laboratory sessions are in SCI 268 on Wednesday at 2:00-5:00pm (sec. L1-L3) and
5:30-8:30pm (sec. L4, L5) and on Thursday at 8:00-11:00am (sec L6). The first laboratory session is on
Wednesday, January 31st. There will also be once a week a pre-lab lecture
on Thursday at 1:00-2:00pm in SCI 107. Each pre-lab lecture is about next week
lab. The first (Introductory) pre-lab
lecture is on Thursday, January 18.
Most reports are due one week after the completion of the lab work. You
should submit them at your regular lab day next week in the lab. For more
details, see the lab schedule given below.
